Facade Study #1
The initial intent for the facade is to explore the possibilities of masking mass through many parts and equally as many layers.
Facade Study #2
The use of shadow and void become integral in masking depths and the definition of mass it clads.
Moving forward from the facade studies, each layer was consolidated upon a plane and subdivided the height of a typical hotel floor. The intent behind this move was to provide means in which the multifaceted facade may become inhabitable.
Massing Procedural Studies
From right to left the formal design of the hotel was generated through multiple configurations of typical language found in the initial facade. In introducing a leaning language and tessellation onto the mass, the figure becomes morphed and it’s undulations decome hidden amongst the mass.
Procedural Diagram of Tessellation's Application
By using the catalog of fragments in a deliberate manner of scale, a gradient of mass forms from the initial generation of designed facade applied on the office tower to the clumpy terraces found on the hotel.
A sample of how the applied tessellation may overcome the complete definition of the mass it is applied to.
